Quarter Horse Racing is Coming to North Florida

OCALA, Fla. Quarter horse racing is coming to north Florida.
Marion Gaming Management has paid $1.16 million for 50 acres in Marion County to build a quarter horse track. The company has secured a pari-mutuel license from the state. Construction is scheduled to begin later this year.
One of the company's managers says Marion Gaming plans on offering 20 days of racing each year, with eight races per day. Steve Gray also says the company plans to have a card room at the track.
Under Florida law, the pari-mutuel license also allows horse race operators to run card rooms.
State law mandates that 50 percent of card room profits go to thoroughbred horse racing purses, but there's no such requirement for quarter horse racing.
