MACON, Ga. (AP) -- The commander of Robins Air Force Base says the middle Georgia base is ready for its part in a larger reorganization within the military branch.
The Telegraph of Macon reports Brig. Gen. Cedric George says that despite some "growing pains" his base is on target for the official launch of the retooled Air Force Material Command on Oct. 1. The reorganization trims the command from 12 centers to five, with Robins being one of three maintenance depots.
In remarks Wednesday to the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, the general also said Robins is on track to finish its fiscal year with a 98-percent rate for finishing aircraft maintenance on time. That's up from a less than 50-percent two years ago.
