Savannah Feed the Hungry Born Out of Need

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) -- A Savannah car salesman who was laid off turned his misfortune into a way to help others.
Carl Gilliard created Savannah Feed the Hungry three years ago after he was cut from a local car dealership. The minister helped more than 25,000 people last year -- and an impressive 4,000 on a single day this year -- through donations from across the state.
He also set up a computer bank at the Life Center in Garden City to help people enroll in online classes or apply for jobs. He's also offering culinary classes in partnership with the University of Georgia to help people learn how to cook.
The charity also has food and clothing giveaways each week that draw large crowds.
