HUDSON BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- The search for five missing boaters in the Gulf of Mexico has been called off with no signs of a boat and no reports of missing persons in the Tampa area.
Authorities had been looking for two adults and three children since a Pasco County man told them he overheard a distress call early Saturday morning. The U.S. Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission searched the area Saturday and Sunday.
The Tampa Bay Times reported the man said he heard over the radio that the boat hit a rock and was sinking off Hudson Beach.
Florida Fish and Wildlife spokesman Robert Scholl says the search will resume if they get credible information from the public.
