FORT BENNING, Ga. (AP) -- About 200 soldiers will continue to compete this week in a mixed martial arts competition at Fort Benning.
The two-day championship opened Thursday and features competitors in Army Combatives, which combines Brazilian jiu-jitsu, boxing, clinch hitting, takedowns and ground fighting. The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that the martial arts form also uses elements from Judo, kickboxing and Greco-Roman wrestling.
The top competitors will advance to another championship held in July at Fort Hood in Texas.
The contest at Fort Benning is open to the public.
