BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities say a man severed his arm when he lost control of his motorcycle and hit a cable barrier on Interstate 75 in southwest Florida.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 35-year-old Thomas Labelle was heading north on I-75 at 6:15 p.m. Monday when the driver of a truck in front of him applied brakes as he approached slower traffic. The motorcycle turned sharply to the left to avoid hitting another vehicle.
The motorcycle entered the grassy median before hitting the cable barrier and flipping over. Labelle's right arm was severed.
The Naples Daily News reports Labelle and the pickup truck driver had been making frequent lane changes, traveling in excess of the 70 mph speed limit before the crash.
FHP is investigating the crash.
