Police Kill Suspect in Sexual Assaults in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- A man who was suspected in several violent home invasions and sexual assaults overnight in the Tampa area has been shot and killed by police.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office posted Friday on Twitter that 24-year-old Charlie Bates died at a hospital after he was shot.
Officials said Bates, who was involved in an overnight crime spree near the University of South Florida, is also a suspect in two earlier home invasions and assaults in Tampa.
During a morning news conference, Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee and Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor said Bates entered an apartment Thursday night, bound four men and sexually assaulted four women. He then confronted a woman in a different apartment complex, telling her to undress at gunpoint.
