Texas Tech President to Interview at Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -- The president of Texas Tech University is the leading candidate for the presidency at the University of Alabama.
Officials at Alabama on Friday said Texas Tech President Guy Bailey will be interviewed for the position during a public meeting on Wednesday in Tuscaloosa.
Bailey has been president of Texas Tech since 2008. He's a native of Alabama and a two-time graduate of the University of Alabama.
Bailey is the top candidate to replace Robert Witt, who was named chancellor of the three-campus University of Alabama system following the retirement Malcolm Portera, who stepped down in January.
Witt says members of a search committee selected Bailey as their favorite contender for the position by a wide margin.
