GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) -- Relatives of female inmates and supporters are gathering to pray amid allegations of widespread sexual abuse at Alabama's lone prison for women.
Vigils were held in several Alabama cities on Thursday night to remember victims of alleged sexual misconduct involving guards at Tutwiler prison in Wetumpka.
In Gadsden, evangelist Dwight Gary says he's praying that Gov. Robert Bentley feels compelled to do something about the allegations. Shannon St. George attended the vigil for her sister, an inmate at Tutwiler.
In Birmingham, Tutwiler prison volunteer Florence Parsons says she's been concerned about abuse at the prison for some time.
The Justice Department is reviewing allegations claims of misconduct by male guards at the state prison.
