Woman Survives Jump From Sunshine Skyway Bridge

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities say a woman survived a fall from the Sunshine Skyway bridge near St. Petersburg.
St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue officials say a woman stopped her vehicle at the highest point on the bridge about 7:19 a.m. Thursday, sat on the edge and jumped. She fell 174 feet into Tampa Bay.
Officials say a Florida Highway Patrol trooper spotted the woman in the water. He hung a flare from the bridge to guide rescuers to the location.
A fisherman saw the commotion and spotted the woman in the water. He and his friend got her into their boat and called 911. The rescue boat arrived and took the woman to shore. She was taken to the hospital.
Fire Rescue Capt. Tim White says the fishermen likely saved the woman's life.
