MACON, Ga. (AP) -- A Georgia sheriff accused of attacking inmates is scheduled to appear in federal court Tuesday.
Federal prosecutors recently announced an indictment accusing Wilcox County Sheriff Stacy Bloodsworth, his son and two others of participating in the beatings of inmates.
The 14-count indictment announced Friday lists charges against the sheriff; his son Austin Bloodsworth; former Wilcox County jailer Casey Owens; and former inmate Willie James Caruthers. It was not clear early Tuesday whether the four had lawyers in the case.
U.S. Attorney Michael Moore says that Bloodsworth faces a Tuesday detention hearing in federal court.
