AUBURN, Ala. (AP) -- A bald eagle wounded by gunfire is recovering at the Southeastern Raptor Center at Auburn University.
The eagle had been shot twice. A Northport man found the bird and brought it to the Alabama Wildlife Center in Oak Mountain State Park Friday morning, where it was triaged and brought to the raptor center the same day.
Liz Crandall, a raptor rehabilitation specialist at the Auburn facility, says the eagle will likely be released back into the wild in six months. She said the eagle, which has a broken wing, will have to wear a bandage for at least four weeks and have regular physical therapy.
Crandall said the shooting is being investigated by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Special Agent John Rawls.
