Some moms got a special Mother’s Day treat on Sunday. They either got to watch their child or even themselves cross the stage at the Gulf Coast Community College commencement.

The class of 2008 was recognized on Mother’s Day this year. Over 300 graduates received their associate degrees from the two year college at the Marina Civic Center.

It was a packed house Sunday afternoon and there were several mothers receiving their degree as well. The keynote speaker was Janice Lucas, who was a graduate of Gulf Coast in 1981, and is this year’s Bay District Schools Educator of the Year.

She spoke to the graduates about giving back to their college and their community and remembering the bonds they made while at school.

Several of the graduates will enter four year colleges in the fall.
