Superintendent McCalister is not expected to announce the schools he's looking at closing until next Monday, so it wasn't a topic of discussion during Wednesday's meeting.
But board members did hear from Panama City Mayor Scott Clemons on the issue, because he'll be out of town for Monday's board meeting.
"If a school was dramatically re-purposed, or possibly closed, that would take away the incentive for a family to move into that neighborhood. Those schools often times represent not only an educational, but a social center for that area and it will have a long lasting and deep impact on those communities," said Scott Clemons, Panama City Mayor.
The budget workshop on re-purposing and closing schools will take place next Monday night, June 9th at 5:30 pm in the Nelson Building.
On another note, Superintendent McCalister will be holding the first of four public forums on the budget cuts Thursday night at Jinks Middle School at 6 p.m.
