A former teacher from Escambia County is charged with having a two-year affair with a student.

Officials with the Sheriff's Office say 24-year-old Janelle Bird had an inappropriate relationship with a student she taught at East Hill Christian School.

An investigation began in October after the boy's aunt called school authorities to report the incident.

Bird is charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious battery and two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

Authorities say Bird turned herself in and was released after posting a $15,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on December 30.
