There is more talk at the Bay County School Board about what to cut in the districts budget for the next school year. The board is now looking at cutting another $4 million from their budget, a total of $20.2 million from the general fund.
At the budget workshop, board member Ginger Littleton explained what can and cannot be cut from the budget. The general fund is the district's operating budget, which includes money for salaries and building repairs.
Littleton says the board is examining every possible option of where to cut without affecting the quality of the schools.
Ginger Littleton said, "It's a huge hit. We lost 3.7 this past year. We lost another 2.1. We really didn't have any meaty bones in the budget and now to pull out another 20 million dollars from it is going to severely challenge us to continue the level of service to be able to continue to serve all our learners."
One of the plans to cut $3.5 million is to close and repurpose different schools. A group planning to present options to save Millville Elementary pulled their item from the agenda and the board meeting.
They are planning a forum Thursday night, and the board members are expected to attend.
