Gov. Charlie Crist has signed bills letting universities increase tuition beyond state requirements and strengthen financing of a school voucher program.

Crist on Monday also vetoed a bill (HB 714) that would have delayed a requirement to install fire sprinklers in condominium common areas from 2014 to 2025.

Under the tuition bill (SB 762) universities can boost rates by up to 15 percent annually until they reach the national average. The 15 percent maximum includes an 8 percent increase ordered for all the schools this year by the Legislature.

The voucher bill (HB 453) will give insurance companies a credit against premium taxes for donations to a program that sends low-income children to private schools.
