Charter School Could Face Probation

Panama City - One local charter school faces probation after receiving poor marks from the Florida Department of Education for the third year in a row.
New Point Bay High School received another D grade for the 2010-2011 school year. That's it's third D in a row. Bay District Schools officials warned New Point a few months ago that another D could mean possible probation.
Wednesday, Husfelt said the school board will discuss what to do.
"Their grades and graduation rates, they all count towards our overall grade and graduation rates so if they're not achieving then it is detrimental to the whole district so that's something we take very very seriously," he said.
Among the school board's options are calling for a new director or principal at New Point, amending the school's charter or even closing the school.

I would like further detailed reporting on Newpoint's claims. If these claims hold true, then perhaps the school is not receiving due credit.
Good Points Newpoint...I guess Husfelt has a buddy that needs a job. How about he give the information and scores on the weighted scale to show the school outperformed other schools. I thought a person in Husfelt's capacity would be encouraging and promoting the school to do better and if it was on the same scale as others it would be a B school as well.
I always love stories about Newpoint. They are so bias and one sided. It's true we have a D again, but what they forget to mention is that we have a 94% graduation rate which is 12% higher than the district average and 14% higher than the state average. Also Newpoint's base score was higher than two of Bay District High Schools. Also Newpoint was in the top 12% in the state on the science test. All of this combined should have made Newpoint a B school. The only reason the score was bumped to a D was because the school is too small to receive points in many categories. Although we have a student graduating with an AA degree and several more only a few credits shy, our dual-enrolled status didn't count because we don't have enough kids. Also most schools lowest 25% all have 1s and 2s so it is easy for them to make a gain. A lot of our lowest 25% have 3s which makes if very hard to gain to a 4. Newpoint is a GREAT school and I wouldn't be anywhere else and that's the whole story.
