To be Homecoming king or queen is a dream for many high school students, but at Friday’s Bay High Homecoming Game, a special student is having her fantasy realized just from walking onto the field.

Nicki Remick is a senior at Bay High, and she was nominated for the homecoming queen court. Like the other nominees, Nicki has a winning spirit, and is filled with beauty, but she also has Down Syndrome.

Nicki, her friends and family are determined not to let that differentiate her from the rest of the contestants. Just ask, and she will tell you she is ready.
“I’ve been practicing my walk on the field, and then I’m going to go in the parade and wave and say hi” said Nicki Remick, homecoming queen contestant.

Nicki’s father, Doug Remick, is one of her biggest supporters, and he has been with her every step of the way. He’s been by her side as she got her dress and even her make-up.

Friday night Nicki will get to realize her dream as she get to walk midfield on homecoming night with homecoming king nominee, Martin Roney. Whether she win or not, does not seem to be the ideal focus for Doug Remick, watching his daughter live one of her lifelong fantasies makes all the work put into her big day worth it.

“Seeing her walk on the field, it’s going to be just awesome, in front of all those people, to see her out there smiling, and being the center of attention, I think that’s what I’m going to remember the most” said Doug Remick, Nicki’s father.

Nicki’s friends say she’s a good friend and a special person, and that one of a kind, can-do attitude is what Nicki's family and friends admire most about her.

Friday also shared another special purpose for Nicki, it was her nineteenth birthday.
