Randy Poe's information about the First-Time Homebuyer Credit is wrong. The home must be purchased after April 8, 2009 and before December 1, 2009. Also, the if the house ceases to be your main home within 36 months of purchase, the entire $8,000 is due to be repaid with your income tax return the following April 15. If you can afford a house, yes go out and get you one the market is right. But if you can not afford one, do not buy one, because you will be over your head than they will come and foreclosed on it.
