Fishing

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla- There's good news for anglers in this area as word has come down that there will be a Billfish event at Bay Point Marina after all.

The oil leak earlier this Summer forced organizers to cancel the annual Bay Point Invitational. Now that the leak is plugged, and the Gulf fisheries are re-opened, the Panama City Beach Tourist Development Council is teaming up with the Bay Point Marina to play host to the Panama City "Sportfish Classic" September 24th and 25th.

"You know it reflects an awesome opportunity to get people out fishing and to celebrate what a great time of year to fish, the water's clear, September's just a wonderful time, traditionally for Wahoo, Marlin, White Marlin are active." "Sportfish Classic" Director Scott Burt said. "It's a wonderful opportunity to team up with marinas, Grand Lagoon, and get folks out fishing in a fun, family based tournament. Great setting, live entertainment, typical festival with all the good things we do onshore."

The T.D.C. has pledged a guaranteed $100,000 in prize money. Anglers will fish for Blue Marlin, Swordfish, Tuna, Wahoo and Dolphin. The entry fee is $1,500.
