Fishing

SANDESTIN, Fla- After a tough Summer in the Gulf of Mexico, it's finally time for a little sport fishing, courtesy the Sandestin Gulf and Beach Resort.

20 boats signed up for the Sandestin Celebration Fishing Tournament. Those boats heading out of the Baytowne Marina around 6 o'clock Thursday. They'll fish overnight and into Friday, with the chance to weigh in their fish between 4 and 9 Friday, and 4 to ten Saturday. Newschannel 7 sports spoke with a few of the captains and anglers this afternoon before they set out, to gauge how excited they are about finally fishing again competitively and how they think the fishing will be.

Bob Welniak said, "It's alot better than looking at the beach. As pretty as the white sand is, the water is even better. Just excited to get back out there."

"Hopefully we can find some good spots, find some rigs and some structures below and find some good fishing. I'm just happy because I have a six week old, and I get to go out and get away from all that crying. Three days of rough seas will be better than all that crying. We're excited hopefully we'll come back with a big fish and get back in time," added Kyle Braniff

The prize purse about $230,000 thousand dollars, that's pretty strong for a 20 boat fleet. Again the weigh-ins Friday and Saturday night at the Baytowne Marina.
