COTTONDALE, Fla- The 2010 high school football season is now officially under way in our area. The season kicking off Thursday night for two area programs, who went head to head up in Cottondale.
The Class 2-B Marianna Bulldogs heading west just a bit to take on the 1-A Cottondale Hornets. In the first quarter, Dog's with the ball, capping a nice drive with the give to the fullback Chris Bowers an 18 yard touchdown run, the point after fails and the Dogs lead it 6-nothing.
Still in the first quarter, Marianna again on the move, this time the give to #4 Tre Jackson around the right side, he gets inside the Cottondale 15. But then Jackson coughs it up a bit later at the five yard line, Cottondale's Eli Jackson is there to recover for the Hornets.
Into the second quarter it was still 6-0, Cottondale's best drive of the half, Dominique Webb had a big gainer inside the Marianna ten yard line but that drive would stall in the red zone, Hornets turning it over on downs.
Marianna's offense went back to work. Hakeem Holmes connects with Jackson, who streaks down the sideline for 62-yards all the way to the 20. That drive ends when Holmes calls his own number Marianna led 12-nothing at the half.
Marinna holds on from there in a wild second half to win it 26-22.
