There's news concerning Northwest Florida State coach Bruce Stewart. Coach Stewart, who's fighting a brain tumor, is taking a leave from his job with the Raiders. Assistant Joe Richardson will take over as interim coach for the entire season ahead.
Coach Stewart say Tuesday his oncology team has emphasized to him the importance of remaining physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually stress free during his treatment period.
Therefore he says he must step aside.
Coach is at Shands in Gainesville for 6 weeks of chemo and radiation as he fights a glio-blastoma! Stewart says he has the utmost confidence in Richardson and assistant Ray Ross in preparing the team to defend the conference title. Bruce says he looks forward to succeeding in his treatment and making a return to coaching next season.
