10th Annual Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic Kickoff

SANDESTIN, FL- We are just a day away from the start of fishing in the 10th Annual Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic at Sandestin.

Wednesday night the fishing teams converging on the grand ballroom at sandestin for registration, a captain's meeting and the kickoff party, which was a nice mix of good food, some live music and the chance for these teams to mingle before going out and competing against each other.

Unfortunately the potential for some rough conditions in the Gulf of Mexico the next couple of days did cause 15 or so boats to pull out after entering, which leaves the boat count at 45.

Those who stayed in say they'll keep an eye on the conditions, but feel there's no reason to back out at this point.

Captain of "Mollie," Jeff Shoults said, "The weather's dampened it a little bit, but we're still ready to go fishing. We're in a 66 G & S and the weather can't get bad enough. We have every available tool to let us know exactly what the weather is gonna do, almost what you have in the weather station. But yeah, the skill makes a big difference. The captain has to be safe and we're not gonna put out people in danger, that's not what it's all about. It's about having fun, having a good time and the weather's not gonna dampen that at all."
