The juco softball state tournament is underway with both Chipola and Gulf Coast taking part down in Auburndale in central Florida.

It was a good start for the defending champs. They beat Polk 8-2, but then the fall to conference foe Pensacola 8-4 win.

The Lady Commodores, meanwhile, lost their opener to Hillsborough, 3-0, but come back with a win over manatee.

Jill Mathis, walk-off 3 run homer, set up a Chipola and Gulf Coast rematch Saturday at noon. The winner plays on; the loser comes home.
