Those Lady Gators are on the verge of back to back state softball championships.
The Wewahitchka Softball Team hit the field Wednesday afternoon in central Florida, taking on Belle Glade in the 2-A semi's.
The Lady Gators win with a 1-0 shutout.
Ace Samantha Rich absolutely stellar again; she strikes out 11 of the first 13 hitters she faced, goes on to pitch a complete game, two hit shutout, with 18 strikeouts.
Rebecca Barnes scored the only run with a 5th inning single, she stole second and third, and scored when the throw into third bounced away.
So, Wewa, now 26-2, advances to the 2-A state title game Thursday against 26-3 Providence Christian, a private school out of Jacksonville. That game is set for 4PM Eastern. Go Lady Gators!
Wewahitchka Head Coach Coy Adkins said, "Defensively, you know, she put our whole team on her back. You know, 18 strikeouts. I’ll be honest with you, it's very hot down here. She got tired probably about the 5th inning, and just you know, she sucked it up. We did have Rick Williams of T.O.C. in the dugout with us, and that was a big help. You know, he got her cooled down, a little bit, and she went out there and, I think, she just dug deep and turned it up another notch."
Come Thursday at 4PM, Rich will be back on the mound, trying to pitch Wewa to the title. Amazing!
