For the first time ever, the state baseball region finals are being determined not with a one game playoff, but a best of three game series.
Among the area teams part of this new format is Niceville, who Friday night hosted games one and two against Gainesville in their 5-A region final.
Brett Devall the start for the Eagles, showing some good stuff early, getting the strikeout in the first, one of his 12 in the game.
Niceville also strikes first at the plate with a runner on 3rd. Jordan Demos, the sacrifice fly to left. Robby Campbell walks in from 3rd, 1-zip Eagles.
Devall did lose his dominance a little in the 3rd, allowing the first 6 batters of the inning to reach base, giving up 3 runs including the Levon Washington steal of home, 3-1 Hurricanes after 2 and a half.
Eagles come right back in the bottom of the 3rd. Matt Herndon the double down the 3rd base line. Kyle Kennedy comes all the way around to score from 1st, just beating the throw. Now 3-2.
Then 2 hitters later Campbell ties it with another sac fly to left. Herndon scores 3-3 after 3. Now, bottom 4, Danny Collins with runners on 1st and 2nd, the base hit to left.
Demos scores what turned out to be the game winner as Duval was unhittable the rest of the game, 4-3 the final of game 1. Eagles win the nightcap as well, blowing open a close game in the 6th, winning 13-6. Coach Perry and his guys headed to the 5A state semis in Sarasota Wednesday.
Meanwhile on the 1-A level, Paxton's season comes to an end in Jacksonville, they lose 13-3 to Eagle's View in game one, and 16-0 in game two.
