Most kids dream of playing football for their father, leading the team to victory as dad coaches from the sideline.
In the case of James and Jared Hale, that dream's been a reality, but all good things must come to an end, and the same is true in this case, as Friday night Jared quarterbacks the Marlins for the final time.
"Ever since I was little, I was on the field with him, when he was coaching, I used to be a ball boy, you know, at Arnold, and ever since my freshman year, coming up and playing here, it's been great and I'm really gonna miss it, it's gonna be sad."
Certainly dad and head coach share that sentiment!
"This is kind of a special class for us because I've known them for six years, and especially my son playing, it's gonna be emotional for my whole family. My wife's already upset all about it, all week about this last game, but you know that's just part of life, yeah it's gonna be sad, but we're looking forward to it and hopefully we'll play really well."
That's truly a coach’s mentality, but both father and son understand it's time for Jared to move on.
"I've been playing here for four years. I've been looking forward to this day for a long time and I know it's gonna be fun, but at the same time, in the back of my mind it's gonna be real sad cause I've been here four years and you know, I've been playing every game, it's gonna be real sad walking out here for the last time."
Jared hopes to get a scholarship and continue playing football. His hero is Danny Wuerfful, so he'd love to go to Florida, but for now, his focus is on beating Freeport and leaving High School with a win. Adam Roland, Newschannel 7 Sports.
