Chipley, FL-- Tuesday night is going to be a big night indeed for several area high school basketball teams.

For some it's a second state playoff game, for others, specifically those on the 1-A level, it's a playoff opener. You see in 1-A ball now there are just four rounds of state tourney play, so they begin with the region semi's!

Among the match ups in that class Tuesday night, Chipley hosts Paxton. The Tigers, the champs of 1-A district two, riding a 20 game winning streak, with that 20th win coming a week ago Saturday in the district title game against Holmes.

That means when the Tigers and these other 1-a teams play Tuesday, they'll be coming off a 9 day layoff, and as Chipley coach Joel Orlando puts it, that's both good and bad..

"It's a double edged sword, it gives you some time to do some scouting and get reports on other teams. And also puts you in a position you have a big break, so it's unique in both ways. This week we put some things on them mentally and physically to challenge them because as you know mental focus and just being ready mentally is a huge part of this game."

Chipley and Paxton did not meet in the regular season. That game in the Chipley gym set for 7. Also Tuesday night, Rutherford hosts Gulf Breeze in a 5A region semifinal. Marianna hosts Godby on the 4A level, and in 1A, it's Holmes at Malone, South Walton at Graceville and Cottondale at West Gadsden.
