Ironman Florida a Crowded Field with Thousands From Around the World

Panama City Beach, FL----The 2013 Ironman Triathlon is set for Saturday, some 32 hundred have paid to enter, it's estimated some 26 hundred will compete in the grueling swim, bike, run!

To say the least demand for the event is high and has been since the second the spots became available, says Race Director Ben Rausa.

"The preparations started over a year ago. November 3rd, the day after last year's race. We started by selling entries and we sold out in about 45 seconds after we went online. So the day after the race last year we were sold. And athletes have been trying somehow some way to get in, but we can only take so many."

The Boardwalk Beach Resort again serving as race headquarters, folks registering again today.

Ben says all 50 U.S. states will be represented in the race, and 51 other countries. The race begins in the Gulf behind the Boardwalk at 6:50. You can see the swim, bike and run courses via this link:
