FHSAA Doles Out Two Game Suspension To Wewa Head Coach

Wewahitchka, FL---Wewahitchka head baseball coach Tony Muina will be sitting out a two game suspension during his team's final two regular season games Monday at Munroe, and Tuesday at Bay

Sunday Muina and some of his infielders were found on Blountstown's home field at Sam Atkins Park taking some infield.

It's against state rules to practice on Sunday, and it's unusual, to say the least, to travel over to an opponent's diamond to work out without permission.

Blountstown's hosting the 1A-2 tournament next week, and coach Muina telling me by phone Monday afternoon a few of his infielders wanted to get a feel for the all-grass infield at Sam Atkins.

He says he couldn't let the players go alone, adding it wasn't a scheduled practice, and they weren't trying to gain any advantage, and frankly he didn't think it was a big deal at first, given the park is not on Blountstown school property.

In hindsight, coach Muina says he should have told the kids no, they couldn't go to Blountstown, especially on a Sunday.

He says after thinking it over, his school self-reported, and the F-H-S-A-A quickly handed down the two game suspension. So Wewa assistant Justin Smith will guide the Gators Monday night at Munroe, and Tuesday at Bay.

I also spoke with Blountstown head coach Emory Horn, he did not want to talk about the matter.

Wewahitchka is the top seed heading int the 1A-2 district tournament, and will play it's first game at Sam Atkins Park in the tourney Tuesday the 22nd.
