SANDESTIN, Fla- It was a great day to be outside and enjoy the 25th annual Sandestin Triathlon in South Walton County.
Over 800 athletes made the trip to Sandestin for the race, which started at 6:30 this morning with the half mile swim in the Gulf behind the Finz restaurant.
Several age groups hit the water in both male and female categories.
After the swim time for a quick change over to the bike portion of the race. The course taking them around the area for a 20 mile ride.
And of course the final portion of the event is the run, a 4 mile sprint almost for most of the athletes. A scenic route for the run, and then the finish line.
A great race for the athletes and the area.
"It's my second time here in Sandestin. I live in Pensacola and always love to come down here or this race," said race competitor Taylor Knight.
"It's a well put on race. Volunteers here did a phenomenal job. You couldn't ask for any better," added Bain Foote. "You don't have to wait in line. Heck we're going on vacation for a week after this so you can't beat the amenities here."
The top finishers were Fort Walton Beach resident James Lefebvre with a time of 1:26:2.
On the women's side it was Caroline Smith of Mandeville, Louisiana with a time of the 1:29:30.
