Recap: Harlem Ambassadors at GCCC to Benefit Local Lions Clubs

A charity basketball game tipped off Friday evening at Gulf Coast Community College to benefit three local Lions Clubs.

The Harlem Ambassadors, an entertainment-basketball team, partnered with the clubs to play against some notable figures in the area.

It was all in an effort to raise money.

School Superintendent Bill Husfelt coached the Lions and Bay County supervisor of Elections Mark Andersen blew the whistle as the referee.

Even though the Lions typically lose, they were spotted 51 points and the two teams were tied at the start of the fourth quarter.

Organizers say it's all a team effort.

"There are three of our clubs that work together, the Panama City Club, the Lynn Haven Club and my club, the Parkway Lions Club,” said Bertha Smith, Parkway Lions Club. “And we work together real well to do this because it's such a joy."

This event has been going on for two years. Last year, each club raised $2,500 to benefit the community.
