Brandon Jones is ready to make a run at a starting spot this spring. When Brandon Jones was in high school, in the small town of Wewahitchka, he never dreamed he make it to the majors.

Coming from a small town like this isn’t nobody going to give you too much of a chance but I stuck with it.

Jones' dream of playing in the big leagues finally came true on June 11th last season when the Atlanta Braves optioned fellow rookie Josh Anderson to add Jones to the varsity.

“It was a dream come true. I would have never thought in a million years that I’d be playing in the majors but that was one of my big dreams and I mean I was thrilled.”

After joining the varsity, Jones didn't disappoint. Jones hit a 2.67 with a homer and 17 RBI in 41 games. Jones feels those numbers could improve if he wins the left field job in spring training.

“Last year I pressed a little bit. I put a lot of pressure on myself.
Everybody expected me to make the club out of spring training. I just had a lot going on in my mind then, but now I kind of know what to expect so I’m just going to go out there and play.”

Jones feels the toughest difference in pro ball and high school or college is staying mentally tough when things aren't going your way.

That's just baseball. Everybody's not going to be perfect the thing is you got to be mentally tough. You know you got to try to bounce back. Something Jones has been doing since being drafted back in 2004.

The Braves will play at Champion Stadium at Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
