Jerry Samuels - Arena Football

He may not be the same player he was in high school or at Fort Hays State, but Jerry Samuels will tell you he's actually a better player now. Experience is on his side as the Rams grad gets ready to play for the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Pioneers.

"Eventually age plays a factor, but I still bring it. I can run between the chalk like I did in high school."

It's been 13 years since Samuels last put on a Rams uniform, but he says he's ready to make one last attempt at playing the sport he loves.

"Given another opportunity to do something I like, worry about my dream, it may be the last time I get to pursue that dream."

Arena football is a tough sport. Players play both ways, and the three-time Letterman says he's up to the task.

"I'll play a little offensive line and defensive line, so some plays I'll be playing tight end. It's kind of like ironman football; if you ain't built for it, it's probably not the place to be."

Once he's done playing, he'll get back into coaching. Right now Samuels is ready to get back on the field.

"Once it's over for me, then I can be at East to be coaching. Otherwise, right now I still got plenty of fuel in my tank and I'm still ready to go."

Samuels and the Pioneers open the season on March 31 against Manchester.
