Panama City Beach- Saturday they are taking on probably the toughest event in sports.

There were more than 2,500 athletes jumping into the Gulf of Mexico this morning the pro's going in first around 6:50 a.m.

From there it was on to a 112 mile bike ride on Back Beach and other Bay County roads to the north end of the county.

It was a very scenic route for the grueling bike run of the triathlon.

And last but not least the 3rd leg of the super triathlon a full marathon 26 mile runs.

This would be a feet in and of itself but it comes after 114 miles of exhausting work.

The winner is first time Ironman competitor Kirill Kotshegarov with a time of 8:24:29.

Not a record but a great performance in his first race, and first time in the U.S.

Kotshegarov said, "I wanted to get to the award ceremony tomorrow so top ten would have been perfect for me. But I won so I'm just very happy."

As for the women it was the same course, same work, and an equally impressive finish by Sophie Goos.

She wasn't the first transitioning to the bike but she made up plenty of ground in the bike and run portions and she's the first woman to cross the finish line with a time of 9:08:38.

Goos said, "All those people I almost had tears in my eyes. This is really amazing. This is a dream actually."
