To say the least it's been a great season for both hoops teams at Chipola, so it's no surprise to see players from those squads moving on to big time division one programs.
Today two Chipola hoopsters signed D-1 scholarship offers. Let's begin with Lady Indian Latoya Brown, a 5’6” guard out of Whigham, Georgia. Brown signed with Fresno State University, so she's California bound this summer.
Brown averaged 9 points, 4 assists a game. She made 74 consecutive starts, and was a big part of the Lady Indians repeating as state champs, and 5th place finish nationally.
On the men's side, Deandre Thomas, the 6’8”, 290 pound forward, signed with coach Kelvin Sampson, Indiana University. That's a move back towards home. Deandre's a Chicago native.
Thomas and his mates also won state, and wound up as the national runner-up this season, so both Brown and Deandre know a little something about big time hoops already.
