It's the kickoff to the second season of middle school swimming in Bay County. All 7 middle school teams on hand for a series of relays.
The middle school program designed to get more kids into swimming at an earlier age, with the hopes that would trickle up to the prep level, strengthen those area programs.
"Most of the kids entering high school, that join the high school swim teams, probably 50 percent of those have never swam competitively, so we're getting a jump start, we're getting these kids in the water at 6th and 7th grade, and hopefully we can develop a feeder program for the high school and develop swimming in bay county overall."
The meet is going from 3:30 to about 6:30 this afternoon.
