The Chipola softball program has its first ever state championship trophy! Coach Hendricks is in just her third year with the Lady Indians, leading the softball squad to a perfect 5 and0 mark at state this past week. The final win: 1-0 over Miami-Dade Sunday, giving Chipola its first softball state title.
Coach Hendricks and the squad just arrived back in Marianna Monday night. She told Newschannel 7 sports she'll give the girls Tuesday off, then get back to work Wednesday to prepare to head back to Central Florida and the national tourney in Plant City. That begins May 17th.
Winning this softball title gives Chipola three state championships in one season.
Back in 1971 and '76, Miami-Dade won three state titles, but no school has ever won the four major sports championships in the same year. Chipola's baseball team is one win away from changing that.
