We're now just over two weeks away from the actual playing rounds of the 2007 Boeing Championship at Sandestin.
Already there are rather visible signs the event is just around the corner.
"They're doing construction on 18, 18 green, obviously that's gonna’ be the home hole. [It] was the hardest hole on the tour last year, so it will be very exciting there. They're through on 17 just about. The media center's popping up, the player's dining area's popping up, and the clubhouse, so it’s an exciting time," tournament officials said.
As for the field, Well Craig and tournament officials spent a fair amount of time this winter recruiting the best players on the tour.
He says thanks to the Raven Course, and Sandestin itself, it was an easy sell to get players back.
"A real testament to that; this year we went to two golf tournaments that were on the champions tour. We went to Tampa and we went to Palm Coast, the Ginn Championship and both of those events, as soon as we walk up to players, and of course I had Raven logos everywhere, they knew not only the course, but the tournament,” Craig explained. We were the only course that had three holes in the top 10 toughest on the Champions Tour last year, and those guys remember that because the players look at it as it really separates the men from the boys, if you will. Because you've got, they feel like the better players have a better chance to win on a tougher golf course."
Bobby Wadkins, the defending champ, he's coming back, along with a field that resembles a major.
Two more commitments came on Wednesday; Dr. Gil Morgan and nine time Major Winner Gary Player.
The Boeing will be held from the 28th through June 3rd. Volunteers are still needed. Visit the tourney website for more details.
