Niceville Loses State Championship Game

By  |

It's the most important day of the season for the Niceville eagle football team.

A trip to the state championship game was earned by simply dominating 13 teams along the way.

The Eagles met the Dwyer panthers from Palm Beach Gardens for the championship game down in Orlando.

Coach John Hicks in his tenth season as the Niceville head coach was looking for his first title, and Niceville’s first since 1988.

On the 1st drive for the potent Dwyer offense and Florida Gator commit Matt Elam scored on a 6 yard run the point after failed 6-0 Dwyer early.

Then no scoring until the second quarter when Kyle McDorman pumps and throws the fade to Kody Williams, and he gets it into the end zone for the score, extra point is good Niceville takes the lead 7-6. But not for long.

Next play for Dwyer and Matt Elam shows why Florida wants him as he goes 69 yards for the rushing td. Add the two point conversion to make it 14 - 7 Dwyer.

That's how this game went in the first half, Niceville’s defense couldn't hold the Panthers Elam with his third TD of the game.

-Niceville doesn't score again until 17 seconds left when Roy Finch punches it in to make it 36-14.

Dwyer just too much offense in that second quarter, and defense truly does win championships.

Final score 42-14 Dwyer wins the 4a title despite giving up 342 total yards.

Niceville did move the ball, but simply couldn't get it the end zone.

Niceville ends the season 13-1, Dwyer, 14-1 as state champs.
