South Africa – The USA will advance to the next round of World Cup play, after team captain Landon Donovan scored the go-ahead goal in overtime against Algeria.

The score throughout the game stayed tied at 0-0, but near the end of overtime, the USA squad returned from a shot on goal to set up a fast break down the field. After an initial shot was blocked, Landon Donovan swooped in from midfield to follow up with a fairly easy tap into the goal over Algeria’s goalie, who had not gotten up from the initial shot block.

The win puts team USA in a position to not only move ahead, but to possibly stand at the top of their group… a group that includes team England.
