Early starter Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa surged to a five-shot lead with a 5-under-par 67 taking him to 12 under par and the second round British Open lead.

England’s Justin Rose could be a sleeper to win the British Open since he’s used to playing in U.K. weather.

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland (AP) -- Play has been suspended by darkness at St. Andrews, so 30 golfers will have to finish their round tomorrow.
Friday's second round of the British Open had a little bit of most everything nature has to offer, including an hour-long suspension of play after officials deemed that high winds were making The Old Course unplayable.
Early starter Louis Oosthuizen (WUHST'-hy-zen) of South Africa surged to a five-shot lead with a 5-under-par 67 and then watched from the comfort of his hotel room as first-round leader Rory McIlroy stumbled in the blustery conditions. The 21-year-old from Northern Ireland could do no better than an 8-over 80 a day after matching the major championship record with a 63.
Fifty-year-old Mark Calcavecchia (kal-kuh-VEHK'-ee-ah) fired a bogey-free 5-under 67 before the winds kicked into high gear and is alone in second place at minus-7. Calcavecchia won his only major title at the 1989 British Open.
The Brits have a couple of contenders looking to end the 11-year drought in their home major. Lee Westwood and Paul Casey are 6-under after shooting 71 and 69, respectively.
U.S. Open winner Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland had an early start and signed for a 68 to get to 5-under.
Fifty-one-year-old Tom Lehman (LAY'-muhn), the 1996 champion, is also in a group at minus-5 after shooting 68.
Masters champion Phil Mickelson shot a 71 and sits at even par and just above the projected cut line.
After conjuring up memories of past glory with a 66 in the opening round, former champion John Daly needed 76 shots to complete his second trip around the wind-swept Old Course.
