Panama City- The Junior College basketball season doesn't start until October, but the defending national champion Gulf Coast Lady Commodores are preparing to defend their title now.

Last season the ‘Dores went 32-1, and beat Jefferson College in the national title game to capture the school's third national title. All of those titles have been won in the last 9 years.

The squad will have to replace national player of the year Andrea Smith, all conference player Andrell Smith, all conference players Taylor Dalrymple, and all conference player Angie Felton.

So, the team has it's work cut out, but in JUCO ball that's always the case with players only staying around for two years.

Gulf Coast women's head coach Roonie Scovel said, "We lost six sophomores off last years team, we lost alot of production off last years team, so our work was cut out for us to hit the recruiting trail which we've done most of the summer. We've just finished up signing our last player for next season so here we are just signing our last player and in two weeks time we'll be lining up with all those new players."
