Panama City Beach, FL--Now to the 29th annual Gulf Coast Triathlon which is set for Saturday. About a thousand racers have signed up, that number down from the numbers of a few years ago, but there are some logical reasons for that.

Shelley Bramblett
G.C.T. Race Director

"When we first started this race many years ago we were kind of the only triathlon anywhere in this area. Now we've gone to from maybe ten in the country to 100, and so what we're seeing is a decline in participation. And I think it's due mostly to the economy, when you go to your local then most people do that based on gas prices and stuff. However that being said, we still have a thousand people who have come from all over the country and we're excited about that."

The G.C.T. is a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike and a 13.1 mile run. The bike course has changed a bit because of the new airport, it no longer uses state road 388. The swim and run courses are basically the same as last year.
