Bonifay, FL--There's a change coming for one of this area's high school football programs. Holmes Head Coach Al Simmons turned in his resignation Tuesday and it was accepted at Tuesday night's school board meeting up there. For coach Simmons this is more of a retirement than a resignation. He spent the last two seasons as the coach there, 3-7 in oh-9, then 7-3 last year in that very competitive 1-A district 1. Simmons actually coached more than a dozen years at Holmes before retiring a few years ago. He then came back in oh-9 to guide a struggling program, and again turned things around, a four game improvement in between those two seasons. The search for coach Simmons' replacement is already under way. I think it's safe to say one very good candidate is already on staff, assistant Brad Johnson, who's been there five years has thrown his hat in the ring, and could provide continuity in the program. We'll keep you up to date on that search.
