Marianna, FL--For the five men's basketball programs of the Panhandle Conference, the league schedule begins in the week ahead.
It's certainly going to be an interesting fight as all five teams have posted impressive records in non conference play.
For Chipola league play starts at Tallahassee Saturday. The Indians 16-1 so far, and Jake Headrick feels like his team's been tested with those first 17 games. That says Jake though, isn't what's prepared his guys to start a much tougher conference slate.
"What I've learned is, the best way to simulate your league is to start talking to your guys in August, September, October and every day as to just how good this league is. And you still can't warn them enough. You know there's just no way to simulate be able to go play at Tallahassee and playing in front of a rough crowd. You know early season at junior colleges you just don't get an opportunity to play in front of a lot of packed houses, good environments. Much less you know against too much quality depth."
Below are the standings for the five conference squads, it's obvious this conference is among the best in the nation, if not thee best.
The five teams a combined 68-13, led by the Raiders at 15 and oh, they're ranked 3rd in the nation under first year coach Steve Forbes. Raiders open by hosting gulf Coast, again Chipola starting at Tallahassee Saturday. Women play at 5:30 local time, the men at 7:30.
Northwest Florida State 0-0 15-0
Chipola 0-0 16-1
Pensacola State 0-0 15-2
Tallahassee 0-0 12-4
Gulf Coast State 0-0 10-6
