Auburn, AL-- Anyone associated with Auburn football, and many fans who aren't, are familiar with what's called Toomer's Corner, and the oak trees there that get papered after a big win! Well a man who claims to be a Tide fan has taken credit for dumping a serious amount of pesticide on those trees, and Auburn officials, after running soil tests, say the trees likely won't survive.
The culprit called in to the Finebaum show saying he poisoned the trees a short time after the Iron Bowl in late November. Calling himself "Al from Dadeville" he said the trees would definitely die. The caller signed off with, "Roll Damn Tide." After hearing of the call, Auburn ran soil tests which showed lethal amounts of the pesticide.
Auburn fans traditionally celebrate by using toilet paper to roll the Toomer's Corner trees, which are estimated to be more than 130 years old.
