Panama City, FL---Area high school teams are just about two weeks into spring practice and many now gearing up for spring jamborees or games.
Count the Bay Tornadoes among those getting set for a jamboree Friday at Tommy Oliver Stadium. Bay going through a third spring under head coach Jimmy Longerbeam.
Bay coming off another disappointing season in which they failed to compete in a tough district. Next season Mosley joins their league, along with Rutherford, Arnold Gulf Breeze and West Florida. Simply put, talent and numbers are a must to survive in the new 5-A district 1.
"Not real sure of what we should have," says Longerbeam "but we have about 50 kids right now, between 48 and 52, roughly in that area. You know that's pretty good numbers, 9th, 10th, 11th graders. You know we're pretty happy with those numbers, I really am. We had a great winter. The kids have done a great job all winter long. This has just kind of carried over."
Bay will take part in the Bay County Jamboree Friday night at Tommy Oliver, get in two quarters of play there.
"Well it's important for our kids." the coach says. "It gives us the opportunity to play against somebody else. Kind of look at where we're at, even though it's only 12 minutes. We'll play both Bozeman and Mosley. So that will be a good opportunity for our guys and our kids look forward to that."
That Jamboree Friday to start at 6, they're still organizing who will play whom and at what times. We'll let you know when they finalize it all.
